STATEMENT BY JASON CARBALLO,
PRESIDENT,
FINANCIAL SERVICE CENTERS OF NEW YORK, REGARDING
NYS “BACK TO SCHOOL” PAYMENTS TO RECIPIENTS OF
PUBLIC ASSISTANCE OR FOOD STAMPS
“New York’s licensed check cashers are pleased to serve as a key
delivery channel for the state as it distributes money to welfare
and food stamp recipients through its one time “Back to School”
program. It is important to note that recipients have
90 days to access their money through this program, as described by
the Notice from the NYS Office of Temporary and Disability
Assistance. (Click
here to review that notice.)
“This is just one
example of how federal, state and local governments can partner with
the extensive network of check cashers located throughout the state
to deliver essential financial services to key populations not
always served by traditional banking institutions.”
