16 STUDENTS AWARDED $40,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS AT THE FINANCIAL SERVICE CENTERS OF NEW YORK’S 21st ANNUAL CONFERENCE
FSCNY/MoneyGram International Scholarship Program Has Awarded $635,000 in Scholarships to 284 Students Since 1996
BROOKLYN, NY, May 29, 2013 – The Financial Service Centers of New York (FSCNY) held its 21st Annual Conference & Exposition today, at which it announced its annual scholarship award winners. Every year, the FSCNY/MoneyGram International Scholarship Program recognizes New York high school students for their academic achievements and community service.
This year, 16 students received scholarships for a total value of $40,000, with a grand prize award of $7,500. In addition, Richard Kelsky, President of TellerMetrix, donated a laptop computer to each of the six first-place winners.
Other conference highlights included opening remarks from Senator Eric Adams (NY-District 20), who addressed the vital role that financial service centers play in many area communities. The conference also included general sessions that focused on the business and technology aspects of innovation for the industry, as well as a number of workshops that featured financial service center experts.
During the luncheon, Sanford Herman, Chairman of FSCNY’s Scholarship Committee, presented the winners of the 2013 scholarships. Since the program’s inception in 1996, the FSCNY college scholarship program has helped 284 deserving students attend Ivy League and other selective universities and colleges. In total, $635,000 in college scholarships has been awarded. FSCNY provides one-time cash grants to New York State high school seniors who meet the following selection criteria:
- Commitment to community service
- Perseverance in the face of significant obstacles
- Display leadership skills in school
- Academic achievement
“FSCNY members strongly believe in supporting the communities that they serve each day,” said Chairman Herman. “Giving back is a core value of our members. Through the FSCNY Scholarship Program, intelligent and hardworking students receive assistance towards their college goals. We are proud to support future leaders and wish them luck in their future successes.”
